Help 911: Information Overload! Copyright © By Gauher Chaudhry, All Rights Reserved You are fresh on the Internet and you are ready to tackle the world! Your relatives and friends are making money on the Internet and you want your piece of the money pie. What do you do? You start a web site and purchase almost every marketing book or visit every marketing web site that you can find on the Internet. You spend countless hours absorbing all the new information and the excitement in your body keeps you reading until the wee hours of the morning. Sound familiar? Where to start? Should I start submitting classified ads to all the free classified ad sites on the Internet? What about submitting links to all the Free-for-all link sites? The experts are saying that you should be concentrating on submitting your site to the search engines? All these different marketing articles say to do this and that? What about asking other webmasters to exchange links? Maybe joining one of the free banner exchanges will provide you with the thousands of visitors that you need? What about creating a variety of web sites on different topics to attract people to your main site? Pretty soon you have a million thoughts going through your head at rapid speed! You can't wait to get started. It doesn't matter if everyone is sleeping and you have to go to school or work in a couple of hours. You have to get your piece of the pie, and fast before anyone else. All this information and so LITTLE time. You feel overwhelmed. Where to start first? What to do first? You can feel all the blood rushing to your head. It is time to call 911 my friend, you are suffering from a very serious marketing condition... INFORMATION OVERLOAD. But don't worry, it is not fatal to your marketing efforts if you get control of it. It is something all of us come across struggling on the Wild Wild Web. We try to absorb and implement everything we learn as soon as possible. We forget that there are only 24 hours in one day or that we have a family that wonders why you sit in front of a computer day-in and day-out. Relax, take a deep breath. With so many marketing resources on the net, you get caught up in too many ideas and sadly enough you cannot make even one work. One of the most common problems is trying to be too many things to everyone. Have you ever gone to a website that is selling car parts and a little further down the page they all of a sudden selling books on gardening? Is that your web site? Trying to sell hundreds of unrelated products to the same visitor? Well hold on cowboy, while I go run to my bank it get my cash out because, heck, I can buy anything I want from your "Walmart" web site without having to waste my time at other sites! How many sales does this type of web site make? Sadly, not many. This also goes for the web sites that try to promote a zillion unrelated affiliate programs at the same time. These conditions are a direct result of information overload. You read to many affiliate programs guaranteeing thousand of dollars in commissions, so you try to join as many as possible and plant every conceivable banner you can find on the front page of your web site. You read to much information on marketing tools to use on a web site and you try to set up EVERYTHING. Awards site, free classified site, free link site, free greeting card site, free stuff site, free email site, etc... Pretty soon you are so overwhelmed with the responsibilities of maintaining each page that you lose concentration on what really is making you money. In my early years, I must admit I tried too many things at the same time and lost focus on my main products and services. In order to be successful on the Internet, you have to create a niche and attract targeted people to that niche. For example, if you are an expert on search engine placement, you should create a web site dedicated to search engine tips and techniques. Any affiliate programs that you promote should be related to your web page such as promoting search engine placement software. You will have far more success with affiliate programs that are of interest to your targeted visitors. With your marketing efforts, you should only concentrate on methods that work. You can easily find out which methods work by taking the time to track where your visitors are coming from. Before implementing all the information you can get your hands on, you should distinguish what is relevant information that will help you become profitable in the end. You do not have to try every marketing method in the book. Some marketing methods may not work for your product. For example, creating an affiliate program for a product you sell that only has a 10% profit margin would be a poor idea. You will not be able to pay your affiliates enough commissions to motivate them to sell your product. Don't let too much information overwhelm or frustrate you. Extract the information that you feel will value you and test the results. Information is knowledge and knowledge is power. Use it wisely and you will succeed. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Gauher Chaudhry is editor of Cool Cash Ezine.
